Mike has recently moved to his position of Acting Senior Lead Hand, and has been in the industry for 22 years.

What does your job entail?

I take care of the day-to-day operations of the Solid Waste section; respond to field enquiries from the public, handle phone calls and emails for staff, do daily data entry and manage the employee spare board for Solid Waste and other departments.

What other duties do you perform?

Other duties I perform include handling the orientation of new staff, taking care of W.C.B. claims and R.T.W. plans, and doing personnel reviews.

What do you like most about your job?

I like the problem solving involved in managing a 16 person crew, and I enjoy working with the public.

What do you like most about the industry?

This industry offers good job security and benefits, and there is a wide variety of work available, especially if you choose to move around to the different sectors.

What attracted you to a career in Parks and Public Works?

I was attracted to the security of a public sector job, and all of the benefits and bonuses that come with it.
